Firsty, the article mentions the matter between the two cultures, the humanistic culture and the scientific culture, assuring that information may be the only way to solve the trial. Then the need for science is emphasized, essential if the society really wants to go ahead. The article goes on saying that, thanks to science and to technology, human life has become fuller and more human and enjoyable. Anyway, it admits that science is not uncriticable.

The author thinks that prediction is the most important characteristic of science, and also the fact of not been a consequence of both the commitment and the consensus. It is not possible for science to give an appropiate answer to all the problems the human being has.

The writing follows analysing the university, defending the need for elites. It presents us the need and the results of one basic research, and finally, it mentions the work and the contribution of the department of phisics of EHU.
